The Crest of the Republic of Delenas

The Crest of the Republic of Delenas

The crest of Delenas represents many things. Resting above all else on top of the crest is the National Crown of Delenas, the one that King Guillaume II wore in 1789 during the creation of the modern country. (This date is noted on the roof of the crest’s center platform.) The ornate design that the crown rests above includes two Chantillons, birds native to Delenas and found only here. The center platform is supported by two maidens as were found on the ancient town hall of Eleni, the capitol city. In the center of this platform is a scene, also of ancient times, depicting the completion of building a Tropaeum, a trophy memorial of victory. These were erected on the field of battle where the enemy had turned to flee, and in case of a victory at sea, on the nearest land. Standing at the far left of the crest is Hygea, the Goddess of Health. To the far right stands Aesculapius, the God of Medicine, who holds sacred the Sclafani family name, an important name in the history of Delenas. Aesculapius is associated more with healing, whereas Hygea is known for prevention of sickness and continuation of good health, both of which are a main focus of the government. The platform floor reads the country’s motto in Latin, “Sepmer Meliora Expeto,” meaning, “Always Strive for the Best.” The motto is placed on the bottom level rather than the top, as it is the foundation of the country. Towards the bottom of the crest, two knights on horses face each other, the army of the North represented on the right, the army of the South on the left. Throughout history, the two armies fought side-by-side defending the country against outside attackers. Each of these put together create the National Crest of Delenas, an important symbol of the country and its people.
